The Road Ahead is Clear with a Commercial Auto Policy

Businesses that own fleets, limos, trucks, or just a few company cars look to purchase Commercial Auto insurance. It’s a no-brainer. But even if your business doesn’t own any vehicles, you should carry some type of insurance. You probably have employees that use their personal vehicles to go on customer calls, visit job sites, or attend trade shows. They may even lease vehicles while out of town on business. If an employee ends up in an accident with his or her vehicle or a rental while on the job and is found to be at fault, your business could be liable. The employee’s personal auto insurance would most likely not step in to pay for any injuries to the other driver.

The Regan Agency is here to help assess your Business Auto insurance needs. Depending on your operation and vehicle usage, we will secure the insurance you need for your business. This may involve comprehensive coverage or simply the addition of Non-Owned & Hired Auto insurance.

Coverage that Goes the Distance

Commercial Auto insurance has many parts to it (just like the coverage on your personal vehicles). Each section is designed to address a different exposure, including:

  • Bodily Injury Liability: Covers bodily injury to a third party for which you are found liable, paying for defense costs and settlements or judgments up to the policy’s limit. Liability limits typically available are $500,000 and $1 million. Depending on your business and the industry you’re in, the number of vehicles you own, and your vehicle usage, you may require increased limits. Additionally, to cover catastrophic losses, such as fatal vehicular injuries, we recommend Commercial Umbrella insurance to extend your coverage limits beyond what is available under an Auto policy. We can review this with you in detail.
  • Property Damage Liability: Pays for repair costs for the other person’s damaged vehicle or property.
  • Medical Payments: Pays for medical expenses of the driver and occupants injured in your vehicle.
  • Uninsured/Underinsured Motorists Liability: Covers your injuries should you have an accident with an uninsured or underinsured driver who is at fault.
  • Comprehensive (Other than Collision): Covers the costs of repairing or replacing a business vehicle as a result of damage from fallen object, fire, and vandalism. Also covers vehicle theft.
  • Collision: Covers physical damage to your company vehicles as a result of colliding with another vehicle or object.
  • Non-Owned & Hired Auto: This coverage steps in to cover your company’s liability for accidents that occur while driving leased vehicles, rentals, and employee-owned cars for business purposes.
